Istanbul hub held its monthly meeting, with the attendance of the Al Sharq Strategic Think Tank Director Dr. Mohammed Affan. During the fruitful meeting, a number of questions were addressed, including: What is a think tank, and what are the features of good think tank? What is distinctive about Al Sharq Think Tank and its role in the region? And what are the opportunities provided by the think tank for students and researchers.
In collaboration with ‘Senior Citizens Center’, Erbil Hub organized an awareness session on breast cancer. The fruitful session aimed to provide women with the needed information to maintain their health and that of their loved ones.
In collaboration with ‘Volunteer with Us for Relief and Development’ NGO, Erbil Hub organized three medical convoys in three villages, near the city of Erbil and Nineveh governorate. The convoys aim to provide medical services and medications to 120 patients. The services included medical examinations and referral of critical cases to a group of specialized doctors and government hospital.
In collaboration with Fuji Film Turkey, Istanbul Hub organized the ‘X-Workshop’ on photography with the participation of 25 selected youth from 10 different nationalities. During the workshop, the participants learned the general techniques of photography and gained practical photography experience as they toured the old streets of Istanbul with the trainers to record some cultural aspects of living in the unique city.
In collaboration with Riyada Organization, Baghdad hub organized a 2-day workshop on writing and marketing projects for international organizations and donors. The intensive workshop resulted in proposals for 6 different projects that shall be executed with the participation of 50 young calibers and organizations representatives.
Amman hub organized an introduction and awareness event on Cyber Security with Eng. Ammar Al Majali, a cyber-security specialist and an electronics engineer, in the Jordanian capital. The interactive event tackled a few questions including: Meaning of Cyber Security? What should we learn to enter the Cyber security world? And What is the difference between an InfoSec Specialist and a Hacker?
Contributing to their local communities, Baghdad Hub organized apprenticeship training workshops for youth in Iraqi refugee camps. The workshops aim to equip and train the participating youth with new professions for them to aid their families and contribute to their communities.
In collaboration with the ‘Youth & Skills Association, Bizerta’, Tunis hub organized a discussion session on the book “Media of brutality and the colorful killing” with the attendance of the book author, Anis Akrouti. The book provides an analytical study on the media discourse on the so-called jihadi movements, having “ISIS” as a case study.
Al Sharq Youth Baghdad Hub organized the final game for “Baghdad Youth” charity football tournament in, partnership with Blumont NGO. The tournament that aims to empower local communities, was concluded with an award ceremony for the winners.
Amman Hub organized a discussion panel titled “The Influence of Social Media on the Human Soul” with Dr. Hammam Yahya, a Psychiatrist and a researcher in philosophy and Islamic disputes. The panel that was held in the Jordanian capital tackled the psychological, social and intellectual effects of social networking sites in terms of the impact on individuals and communities.
