People Talk: Omnibus Law| Jakarta

Omnibus Law has become a topic of conversation among people in Indonesia since Joko Widodo talked about it in his speech last year. Now, during COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the Omnibus Law is increasingly being pushed by an agenda for discussions between the executive and legislative governments to accelerate and simplify the Omnibus design. Most Indonesian youth are familiar with this policy that became an issue in Indonesia. the participants got new insight regarding Omnibus Law from different perspectives. Also, it creates expectation and anticipation from the youth so that people would escort and criticises the decision from the government.

Khartoum Hub organized a discussion on ‘The Role of Resistance Committees in Sustaining Peace and Social Cohesion’, hosting Ali Muntasir, Head of Experimentation at UNDP Sudan, Khalid Eltahir, M&E Analyst PAVE / UNDP, Wael Salama, Director of the Blue Youth Project & Eman Mohamed, Nutrition Officer at Community Development Association.

The discussion tackled various topics including the work done by the UNDP to prevent and counter violent extremism (PCVE) and how they are engaging youth in PCVE. In addition to the importance of resistance committees in implementing and designing peace operation, and the role of youth in Peace building.

Being cooped up during the lockdown due to COVID19 the KL Hub community has had several opportunities to interact with each other virtually but they never had a chance to meet each other face to face. As conditions were improving, ASY Malaysia Hub organized a Potluck Party in the park to give the community a chance to meet each other and share the tastes of their cultures. The potluck gathered 30 participants and a variety of food from different cultures all over the world. The event was a chance to bond for the community members to bond with each other and share their culture and thoughts.

Nagoya Hub hosted the second CHAI TALK entitled “Job Hunting and Business” which garnered nearly 30 participants and a heated and sometimes emotional discussion. Japan is a very peculiar context when it comes to career choice. Are we to simply to follow the path everyone else in society follows, or do we have an alternative? What does success mean, and what does being a professional and earn a living as Muslims in Japan entail? Can we pursue our passion when society tells us to be ‘more realistic’? With valuable advices from older participants as well as refreshing insights from the younger, it is hoped that all were able to take home foods for thought for the betterment of their present and future career choices.
