Al Sharq Youth Europe Regional Big Meet-Up| London

Due to the current circumstances,
The first ‘ASY Europe Regional Big Meet Up’ was held with participation from the network’s 4 hubs in Europe, London, Madrid, Paris and Sarajevo!
The meet up was an opportunity to further strengthen the network beyond the borders, present projects from the different hubs and share best practices. The session was concluded with Al Sharq Youth quiz which was very competitive seeing Madrid Hub Coordinator Doha Kamal clinching the win.

“Education for Her”: Women’s Role in Education for Sustainable Development | Rabat

In collaboration with the UNESCO, the Rabat hub organized a webinar as part of the “Education for Her” project entitled: “Education for the sustainable development of women and their role in achieving a sustainable future”.

The webinar hosted various officials within civil society associations working in the field of environmental protection and the sustainable development goals, in addition to young women pioneers in this field, including:

– Mona El-Zoghbi: Specialist in Sustainable Development.

Cinema, which is called the 7th art and has become one of the most effective ways of conveying messages despite its 100-year history, has become one of the indispensable tools of examining social problems. Nowadays, social problems are also criticized through realistic films with high viewing pleasure, touching life and challenging the audience intellectually. As ASY Istanbul Hub, we wanted to discuss the problems of our society through such local films. As Amaël Cattaruzza says in his book “Géopolitique des données numériques”: Understanding a technology is not only understanding how it works, it is also taking into consideration the social, economic, political and philosophical context in which it is part and that it modifies in return”. Big data can therefore be considered as a socio-technical phenomenon, which has continued to change the world for several years.
France ‘Paris’ Hub organized a talk that addressed the impact and changes related to these new technologies on three different axes:
1- The technological axis: what’s Big Data and what is different compared to technologies before ?
2- Companies axis : How have companies taken advantage so far and how can they improve their data experience ?
3- The human being and society axis : social media, fake news, labor market.

The session hosted Abed Ajraou, Chief Data Officer, Lecturer of Big Data and Data Science Professor, Aissam Ouaza, Serial Innovative Entrepreneur and Startup Mentor, and Philippe Feinsilberber, Digital innovation advisor, lecturer at Science Po Paris.

To what extent does emerging enterprises contribute to reviving the national economy and reducing unemployment rate in Tunisia? | Tunisia

Tunis Hub organized a webinar entitled “To what extent does emerging enterprises contribute to reviving the national economy and reducing unemployment rate in Tunisia?” hosting Dr. Anouar Maarouf – Former Minister of Communication Technology and Digital Economy in Tunisia.

Generally speaking, emerging enterprises are based on innovation and renewal, adopting modern technologies, and achieving high added value in increasing-economic growth and creating jobs, especially for the youth, and promoting entrepreneurship, which will be able to transform the country into a digital hub and a future pillar of the Tunisian economy, which is currently mainly dependent on agriculture and tourism. Because of the importance of this topic especially to young people, and the economic importance provided by such companies, the ASY Tunisia Hub organized this webinar in order to shed light on all that matters to start-ups in Tunisia, starting with the law related to them and all the conditions it stipulates, passing through the facilities and privileges it provides, and access to the government program Startup Act, which was presented and simplified by asking all the inquiries Tunisian youth interested in entrepreneurship and who seek to create their own enterprise.

The Ambassador Talk | Jakarta

Indonesia ‘Jakarta’ Hub held its first event entitled ‘The Ambassador Talk’ hosting various speakers including Syahrul Aidi Indonesian Parliament Member, Zuhair Al-Shun Ambassador of Palestine to Indonesia & Adam Bensaid Senior Strategist at Turkish TRT Network.

The session discussed that Israel’s plan to annex the Palestinian West Bank region not only violates international law but also threatens the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and stability in the region. The planned Israeli annexation would deprive Palestinians of key agricultural land and water resources, especially in the Jordan Valley region. It would also effectively kill the two-state solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict that was based on the idea of land for peace.

Indonesia ‘Jakarta’ Hub held its second event entitled ‘The Ambassador Talk 2.0’ hosting various speakers including H.E. Mr. Vincent Piket – Ambassador for European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam & Mrs. Ika Yuwiani Puspitasari – Director of Dir. HRD PPI Dunia, President of PPI Portugal 2019 – 2021

Because of many Indonesian youth interested to study or even get job abroad, especially in Europe. Al Sharq Youth Indonesia initiative to hold a program in order to motivate the youth to pursue their education forward. Through this program, the speakers inform the participants regarding education in Europe. The speakers brought up the education institution in Europe and gave advice to the participants on preparation to study in Europe countries even during Covid-19 pandemic.

The session answered several interesting questions:
– what does higher education in Europe have to offer to students worldwide?
– Is there any significant impact on learning activities that is felt by international students during the COVID-19 pandemic?
