The Italian hub attended the 4th edition of the Mediterranean Dialogues (MED 2018),organized by the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in Rome, Italy. The event hosted 40 heads of state, ministers and representatives of international organizations beside other 1000 significant business, politics and culture figures. The unique dialogue tackled the Mediterranean region’s pressing issues, including the Palestinian question, the Syrian crisis, the Libya case and Immigration and Refugees crisis.
‘ Ya Hala 2 ‘ MOSAIC CIRCLE | Istanbul
Al Sharq Youth Mosaic Circle sponsored the “Ya Hala 2” evening, organized by ‘Abjad’ Student Club, a student club in Istanbul Şehir University. The event hosted young speakers including, ‘Ali Al Bayati’, specialized in business administration, and ‘Nawras Abu Saleh’, specialized in cinema and audience, to share their insights with the attending students. The evening was concluded by poetry and diverse Arabic musical heritage performances.
African Youth Development Summit | Johannesburg
Hub member, Insaaf Ayana Isaacs, won the network’s opportunity of attending the African Youth Development Summit organized by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) in Johannesburg, South Africa. During the 3-days event, delegates from across the continent deliberated on matters ranging from education to national security. Alongside 100 of Africa’s finest young minds, the conference culminated with a youth manifesto that is to be presented at the World Education Forum set to take place in London next year.
” Migration in the Mediterranean: Why the EU needs partners in the Region?”| Italy
Khalil Mujahed, Italy hub member, attended the ” Migration in the Mediterranean: Why the EU needs partners in the Region?” conference that is held in the European parliament. Beside other topics, the conference panels addressed the current migration challenges and examined scopes for strengthening the cooperation between the EU and the countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean Sea.
“Alternative Economy Models: Innovation and Social Impact”
To shed light on the power of innovation for social progress, Al Sharq Youth held its 7th Regional Event this year “Alternative Economy Models: Innovation and Social Impact” in Madrid, Spain. The event hosted a number of distinguished speakers who discussed the role of groundbreaking technologies including the Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and FinTech in developing alternative economy models with a special focus on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda.
4th Youth Leadership Program| Erbil
Members of Erbil participated in the 4th Youth Leadership Program organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in Iraq. The dynamic program aims to educate young people on the sustainable development goals and the methodology of design thinking in entrepreneurship.

“Bridges for Citizenship” Initiative | Istanbul
Al Sharq Youth Horizons Circle held the first founding meeting of its “Bridges for Citizenship” initiative in Istanbul, Turkey. The meeting which was attended by 25 youth from different backgrounds, offered an opportunity for direct dialogue and reflection among the youth on the issue of citizenship in the Middle East. Besides other speakers, the fruitful event hosted Wadah Khanfar, President of Al Sharq Forum and Mohamed Affan, the network’s Training Director, to tackle the methodologies of building a joint human and social integration between different trends and currents in the region.
Discussion Session on the History of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights | Italy
As the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is drawing closer, Al Sharq Youth Italy Hub organized an interactive discussion session on the history of the Declaration and raised the question of how it is implemented nowadays. The event hosted Thomas Casadei, Professor of Law at the University of Modena, and Doctor Roberto Scaini, humanitarian worker from Doctors Without Borders to share their insights on the issue.
“Jordanian Cultural Cities Meeting”| Amman
In partnership with the Hub’s Mosaic Circle, Jalaad Cultural Center organized the “Jordanian Cultural Cities Meeting”, which brought together a big number of youth with professional artists including painters, sculptors and ceramic artists along with the exhibition administrator, Samy Hindiye.
Core Team Retreat | Istanbul
The network’s core team held a 3-day retreat at Al Sharq Forum’s Headquarters in Istanbul. During the significant event that gathered the core team with the hub coordinators, who came together from 23 countries, the team members presented the 2018 achievements of the network and discussed the new structure and plan of the upcoming year.
