Al Sharq Youth Amman Hub organized an interactive discussion session with the Syrian engineer and inventor Sirin Hamsho. During the fruitful event, Hamsho highlighted the importance of linking one’s desire and skills for something with an investment opportunity to bring about excellence in a certain field.

As part of Al Sharq Opportunities Program, Osha Mahmoud, member of the London Hub, attended the Social Good Summit, which is held annually during the UN General Assembly Week in New York, USA. Organized around the common theme of #2030NOW, the event focused on the ways in which we can unlock technology’s potential to make the world a better place.

“Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2018” | Italy

Saida Hamouyehy, Horizons Circle Coordinator of the Italy Hub, attended the “Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2018” event which was held in the city of Turin, Italy as a delegate representing Al Sharq Youth. Organized by Slow Food International, the 5-day event included interactive exhibitions, educational activities, forums, debates and taste workshops under the motto of “Food for Change.”

‘4th Youth Leadership Forum’ | Istanbul

As part of Al Sharq Opportunities Program, 2 network members attended the ‘4th Youth Leadership Forum’ that was held in Istanbul, Turkey. The 8-day event organized by the network’s partner, the International Academy for Leadership and Development (IALD), included workshops and seminars on various topics including leadership, managing public opinion, entrepreneurship and social media as well as a competition for entrepreneurial and community initiatives.

‘Telling Our Stories, Building Our Legacies’ | Cape Town

Al Sharq Youth organized its 3rd Regional Event this year ‘Telling Our Stories, Building Our Legacies’ in Cape Town, South Africa. The unique event was conducted in three main sessions that focused on youth participation in democratic processes, media as an empowering tool and the ways in which innovative youth can contribute to the economic growth and the uplifting of the South African society. Many distinguished speakers including Fazela Mahomed, Former Head of F&A in the Constitutional Assembly; Yusuf Omar, Founder of Hashtag Our Stories, Sihle Tshabalala, CEO of Quirky 30 NPC and Quirky Innovations and Thembisa Fakude, Senior Researcher at Al Jazeera Research Center shared their valuable insights with the youth present. The event also witnessed the official launch of Al Sharq Youth South Africa Hub.

‘Peace Travelers Program’ | Erbil

In cooperation with Binaa Academy, Al Sharq Youth Network organized the ‘Peace Travelers Program’ in the city of Nineveh, Iraq with the participation of 50 youth from various backgrounds. During the program, the participants visited the archaeological site of Nimrud, the Mar Behnam Monastery and the Mohammed Al Amin Mosque. As part of their visits, the travelers also had the opportunity to meet Jacob Francis, the priest of the monastery and Mohammed Al Tai, the sheikh of the mosque and to discuss key topics including the importance of peaceful coexistence, promoting community reconciliation and developing a religious discourse based on peace and human rights.

‘Common Challenges of the Youth in the Maghreb Region’ | Tunisia

In partnership with the Maghrebi Women Leaders Network, Al Sharq Youth Network held its 2nd regional event this year ‘Common Challenges of the Youth in the Maghreb Region’ in the Tunisian capital, bringing together members from Tunis, Algeria, Rabat, West Tripoli and Nouakchott Hubs. The 4-day event addressed various issues such as regional integration, cultural diversity as a unifying factor and migration, while hosting distinguished academics, members of the parliament, journalists and intellectuals among whom were Rached Ghannouchi, the Co-Founder of the Tunisian Ennahdha Party, Jamila Ksiksi, member of the African Parliament and Wafa Makhlouf, member of the Tunisan Parliament.
