Representing Al Sharq Youth, Mahmood Al-Najjar, Erbil Hub Coordinator, participated in the International Dialogue Camp (IDC 2018) that was held in Beirut, Lebanon. The one-week camp, organized by the Forum for Development, Culture and Dialogue (FDCD), was conducted in various dialogue sessions where participants discussed a wide range of topics including the crises brought by wars, ways of facilitating community reconciliation and defamation of religion. During the event, the Al Sharq Youth representative introduced the values of Al Sharq Youth to the participants and the importance of dialogue among societies.
‘Publishing Research in International Journals’ | Baghdad
Aiming at improving the research skills of the youth, Al Sharq Youth Baghdad Hub held a workshop on ‘Publishing Research in International Journals’ targeting young researchers, university students and academics. During the fruitful workshop conducted by Dr. Omar Hussain Salman, the Innovations Circle Coordinator of Baghdad Hub, the participants acquired knowledge on the methodology of conducting research, the stages of research publication and the international publication standards.
Learning to Be a Peacemaker Programme | Switzerland
As part of the Al Sharq Opportunities Program, two of the network’s unique members, Jihane Rhamraoui from Italy Hub and Laila Serroukh from Madrid Hub, attended the Learning to Be a Peacemaker Programme followed by Caux Forum’s Addressing Europe’s Unfinished Business, Switzerland. Held by the Initiatives of Change Switzerland, the two programs tackled the topic of building social cohesion in Europe through peacemaking. During the event, our members had the opportunity to introduce the vision and values of Al Sharq Youth to the participants of the program.
“Olympia Summer Academy” | Kuala Lumpur
Omer Ajdini, Al Sharq Youth Kuala Lumpur Hub member, participated in the “Olympia Summer Academy” that was held in Napflio, Greece as part of the Al Sharq Opportunities Program. Organized by the European International Studies Association (EISA) and the Navarino Network, the event tackled various topics including conflicts, political violence and the post-Ottoman order.

‘The Launch of the Hispano-Arab Film and Documentary Association’ | Madrid
Al Sharq Youth Madrid Hub participated in ‘The Launch of the Hispano-Arab Film and Documentary Association’ which is formed by a group of young Moroccans in Spain. The main objective of the association is to promote social interaction among different communities in the Hispano-Arab world using cinema as a socio-cultural medium.
Mediterranean Dialogues Young Leaders Mid-Term Meeting | Istanbul
Al Sharq Youth, in partnership with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Institute for International Political Studies, held the MED – Mediterranean Dialogues Young Leaders Mid-Term Meeting in Istanbul on June 26th. During the fruitful event, the speakers, among whom were Wadah Khanfar, President of Al Sharq Forum and Federica Ferrari Bravo, Consul General of the Italian Consulate in Istanbul, focused on regional and international players in Mediterranean and MENA countries and their impact on shaping a security dialogue in the region.

Al Sharq Youth Istanbul Hub Coordinator Mustafa Aykut and other hub members attended ‘The 3rd Annual Youth Summit’ which was held in Istanbul, Turkey and organized by Al Sharq Youth’s partner institution, Co-Opinion Youth Solidarity Network.
‘Al Sharq Festival’ | Erbil
In partnership with the Volunteer With Us organization, Al Sharq Youth Erbil Hub held a culture and art festival full of music and drama performances, poetry and other recreational activities in both Kurdish and Arabic languages. ‘Al Sharq Festival,’ which hosted around 130 participants from all components of society, aimed at strengthening the ties between the Kurds as a host society and the displaced Arabs to promote social acceptance in the community.
