Our world is facing major global challenges, from the pandemic and climate change and their economic and political repercussions to rising populism and authoritarianism. As such, today more than ever we need a comprehensive and interconnected approach that addresses the complexity of the global challenges we face.

Our network aims to address these global challenges integrated with local grass-root priorities through programs, special projects, and activities aligned with grounded values and principles. Our holistic and systemic approach to change has been rooted in the network’s ideals of pluralism, and justice – with a deep conviction that the future we aspire to is within our collective reach.

OUR PROGRAMS

Al Sharq Youth has three main programs: Al Sharq Diwan, Al Sharq Fellowship Program and Al Sharq Impact Platform. Individually, these programs are designed to realize specific objectives, and when collectively combined, provide a holistic experience for the network’s members. As exhibited in the diagram, each program feeds into the other, enabling a synergy towards creating an inclusive vision, empowered leadership, and informed action.

OUR STORY

2012

The Trigger
In the wake of the Arab spring, there was a need for a platform that connects the flourishing new generation of youth. Thereupon, the idea of Al Sharq Youth network was sowed by youth who are aware of the new dimensions of their world.
2013

A Value Based Community
Born out of Al Sharq forum, Al Sharq Youth emerged as a network of committed and active youth leading change towards a more inclusive and just world. The network aims at empowering youth with the resources to take informed action to change their realities to the better and challenge the status quo, and on connecting them to exchange experiences and amplify their impact.

2013
2014-2015

An Impact
Al Sharq Youth started expanding through the execution of regional projects and set out new experiences with youths across seas. This phase was concluded by the 1st international conference of the network held under the theme ‘Engaging the Future’. The conference brought together members of the network with world-class influencers and leaders.
2016

Global Influence
The local groups within the network evolved into Al Sharq Youth Hubs, which are defined as groups of local networks led by respective catalysts. Alongside, Al Sharq Youth constitution and its eight core beliefs were set to frame the standards of the network.

2017 – 2019

A Strong Network
Al Sharq Youth rapidly expanded to reach 20 countries in 7 regions, with more than 6000 members actively contributing to their communities. The network organized more than 250 events and offered hundreds of opportunities to its members in cooperation with prominent global organizations.
2020 – 2021

Sustainable Impact
The next phase aims at levering the potential of the network at a point of considerable global transformation, in order to empower high potential active youth and ideas to effect lasting change, and contribute to solving the global, regional and local challenges that the world.
