Launching its Bosnia Hub, Al Sharq Youth Network held the Sarajevo Talks session on ‘Deadly Cost of Reporting: Press Freedom under Attack’ which brought together Bosnian youth from different backgrounds. Co-organized with Al Jazeera Balkans, the session hosted Wadah Khanfar, President of Al Sharq Forum, as its key note speaker.
As part of Al Sharq Opportunities Program, Fatima En-Nehary, France Hub Coordinator, attended the “European Know-How Transfer” program which was organized by Junior Chamber International and held in Brussels, Belgium. During the unique event, our member had the opportunity to participate in the workshops on the functions of the EU institutions and the panel discussion on the topic of “Young Leaders Shape the Future of Europe.”
In partnership with the Maghrebi Women Leaders Network, Al Sharq Youth Network held its 2nd regional event this year ‘Common Challenges of the Youth in the Maghreb Region’ in the Tunisian capital, bringing together members from Tunis, Algeria, Rabat, West Tripoli and Nouakchott Hubs. The 4-day event addressed various issues such as regional integration, cultural diversity as a unifying factor and migration, while hosting distinguished academics, members of the parliament, journalists and intellectuals among whom were Rached Ghannouchi, the Co-Founder of the Tunisian Ennahdha Party, Jamila Ksiksi, member of the African Parliament and Wafa Makhlouf, member of the Tunisan Parliament.
As part of the Al Sharq Opportunities Program, two of the network’s unique members, Jihane Rhamraoui from Italy Hub and Laila Serroukh from Madrid Hub, attended the Learning to Be a Peacemaker Programme followed by Caux Forum’s Addressing Europe’s Unfinished Business, Switzerland. Held by the Initiatives of Change Switzerland, the two programs tackled the topic of building social cohesion in Europe through peacemaking. During the event, our members had the opportunity to introduce the vision and values of Al Sharq Youth to the participants of the program.
Representing Al Sharq Youth, Mahmood Al-Najjar, Erbil Hub Coordinator, participated in the International Dialogue Camp (IDC 2018) that was held in Beirut, Lebanon. The one-week camp, organized by the Forum for Development, Culture and Dialogue (FDCD), was conducted in various dialogue sessions where participants discussed a wide range of topics including the crises brought by wars, ways of facilitating community reconciliation and defamation of religion. During the event, the Al Sharq Youth representative introduced the values of Al Sharq Youth to the participants and the importance of dialogue among societies.
Selected among the top 40 teams to join the competition, Al Sharq Innovations Circle members competed in the NASA sponsored ‘Annual CanSat Model Satellite Competition’ which was held in Texas, USA between 8th-10th of June. As part of the exciting event, the teams sent the model satellites of their own design and manufacture into the space.
Al Sharq Youth Network held ‘The First Regional Event, Al Sharq Horizons’ that brought together members of Amman, Palestine and Beirut Hubs. The fruitful event conducted various sessions, among them were “Common Political and Social History of Jordan and Palestine,” “People’s Movement in Jerusalem” and “The Current Political Situation in Palestine.”
Al Sharq Youth Regional Coordinator Deniz Baran attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which was held between 24-26 May, as a representative of Al Sharq Youth. During the forum, young leaders presented their projects and ideas for developing cooperation on economic development, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
