Al Sharq International Fellowship program is now welcoming its fellows for the Academic year 2021-22.
The Al Sharq International Fellowship is an extended leadership capacity-building program that brings together a network of 40 passionate and ambitious youth from around the world.
This network possesses the universal values of pluralism, inclusiveness, and justice, and will go on to become effective change agents committed to informed action.
The program aims to cultivate this network into the next generation of globally oriented and locally committed ethical leaders by equipping them with the necessary skills to lead the wave of change at this time of transition and uncertainties.
Al Sharq is now in its tenth year of operations, and we’re ready to take our network to even higher heights of achievement and learning through this fellowship.
More than ever, our world is facing major uncertainties and challenges, from a global climate emergency to vast economic and social inequalities. We’re at a critical juncture where new ideas are needed to avert crisis.
We want to build a better future for all, and this requires a new generation of visionaries and leaders who are creative problem solvers, orientated towards action, and share a set of universal values and a common vision of the future. We hope that Al Sharq will be one of the main drivers of action to achieve this.

Our approach to the program is distinct in its integrated nature. The program is designed in a way to engage you with the fundamental ideas that shape our understanding of the world, expose you to the systemic structures that run it, and equip you with the skills and competencies to act on the complex challenges of our time.
Remote Learning Engagement
Duration: 4-5months
Format: Combination of Recorded sessions, workshops, group discussions and online live discussions.
Description:
Aims to equip participants with tools of reasoning and critical thinking. Focusing on understanding and conceptualizing core subjects, such as epistemology, history of ideas and future-studies. Along with introducing the systems innovation courses on systematic analytical thinking, networking and innovation. In addition, where it engages participants in the analysis and deconstruction of complex phenomena to obtain a deeper understanding of the challenges, problems and potential solutions.
Virtual Leadership Trainings
Duration: 2 days (weekend)
Format: A two-day virtual event that consists of online seminars, workshops, and discussion panels.
Description:
To help participants generate ideas and solutions for the pressing challenges of their countries and regions, the Regional Retreat(s) focuses on community leadership, social entrepreneurship, innovation and context analysis.
Capstone Project
Duration:2-3 months
Format: Facilitated group work with a supervision of expert coach
Description:
By the end of the cycle, the fellows continue their learning by doing. They will be going through an incubation cycle in which they will be coached from the ideation phase till the implementation. Each capstone project is required to have a tangible outcome tackling a social issue.
In-Person Leadership Retreat
Duration: 5-7 days
Description:
Focus on strategic leadership training. Through hands-on training, workshops, lectures and diverse group activities, this phase’s focal point is capacity building skills such as strategic planning, leadership and interpersonal skills (facilitation, negotiations, motivation).
Personal Mentorship
Duration: 4-5 months
Description:
In parallel to the learning journey, professional mentorship would be introduced as part of the program, connecting prominent individuals with fellows, who would contribute to the professional and personal growth journey, expand their networks and horizons.

To successfully complete the Fellowship, the following is required:
* participants who fail to engage above a certain threshold, and are unable to commit, will be excluded from the program.*
